The Most “Heavily Armed” States Ranked [MAP]

Guns are in the news a lot these days.

The Obama administration is pushing for additional action on gun control while Americans try to make sense of it, and gun sales are on the rise.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives keeps a close watch on gun ownership, state by state.

Recently, CBS News has used the ATF’s National Firearms Registration and Transfer Record to compile a list of what they call the most heavily armed states, considering ATF recorded guns per resident.

Independent Journal reports:

The ATF record – which doesn’t include pistols – covers the sale and transfer of the following weapons:

– machine guns
– short-barreled rifles and shotguns,
– suppressors
– destructive devices like bombs and grenades
– concealable devices with the ability to discharge a shot through the energy of an explosive
– any firearm with a bore over half an inch that has not been determined to have a legitimate sporting use.
