American Historical Documents Book CoverGet a FREE copy of “American Historical Documents” edited by Charles W. Elliot

Beginning with the personal records of the earliest discoverers of the continent, the selection goes on to present the first attempts at organizing a machinery of government made by the first settlers of the New England colonies; proceeds to the landmarks of the struggle for independence and the formation of the Constitution; shows the laying of the foundation of national policies and of the interpretation of the Constitution; indicates by the texts of the treaties themselves the acquisition of each successive increase of territory; and reveals by the original state papers the main causes and effects of the wars in which the country has from time to time been engaged.

Read in succession, these documents afford a condensed view of the political progress of the American people; freed from any prejudice save  that which swayed the makers of the history themselves.

I just downloaded “American Historical Documents.” (Thank you!) I just wanted to let you know that the link in the email you sent did not work. I came to the website and downloaded the book with no problem. Again, thanks- I really appreciate the work you are doing in educating me and many others on the founding principles of our nation.

Just downloaded “American Historical Documents.” This is a great project…these books should be required reading in the public school system..but I don’t see that happening anytime soon!

Just tap on the link. It will open the PDF. If you have a PDF viewer like Connoisseur, you’ll be able to save it permanently by tapping “open in”

Works a treat on iPad, iPhone should be same.

      Cheers
      Marilyn

The Federalist Papers admins do a wonderful job of going through our founding documents (and sometimes others) to find pertinent, timely and always thought-provoking pieces. I have discovered a new admiration for Patrick Henry from their work! Thank you, admins! - Lisa Hoppman
